CLIMATE CHAMPION TRAINING WORKSHOP SERIES:

TRAINING GOALS:

This series of pilot trainings will provide interested citizens and Local NH Energy Committees with the training, resources and support they need to:

  • Give effective climate change presentations in their local communities

  • Build climate change awareness and leverage it to foster the adoption of low carbon lifestyles

  • Design and implement residential carbon reduction campaigns in their communities (see: About the Carbon Challenge)

  • Provide on-going support and training to community leaders


PARTICIPANTS:

We are looking for workshop participants who are committed to leading their communities in energy use reductions by inspiring individuals to make measurable changes at the residential level.

  • Individuals must commit to giving at least ten presentations over the course of a year

  • Have access to a laptop and LCD projector

  • Be able to provide three references that show their commitment and passion as an engaging speaker

  • Attendees are encouraged to apply and attend in teams, although individuals will also be accepted

  • Some background in Climate Change education is also preferable.


WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

Workshop 1 – The New Hampshire Carbon Challenge Presenters

March 29, 2008 – The Harris Center, Hancock, NH – Monadnock region - 8:00 - 4:30

April 5, 2008 – Hugh Gregg Coastal Conservation Center, Greenland, NH - Seacoast region  - 8:00 - 4:30

This 1-DAY workshop will introduce attendees to the NH Carbon Challenge TM program and prepare them with effective communication techniques on climate change science and solutions. Through instruction in public speaking and effective use of technology, as well as innovative ways to spread the New Hampshire Carbon Challenge TM, participants will be prepared to empower residents to take personal action to reduce energy use in their own homes.

Note: In preparation for this workshop, attendees must visit the NHCC website, calculate an estimate of their carbon footprint, select a course of action and sign up for the Challenge.

Workshop 2 – The NHCC Community Carbon Challenge Organizers

Fall 2008

This 1-DAY workshop is intended for those individuals that have attended the NHCC presenter's workshop and are committed to developing a Community Carbon Challenge TM in their community. The workshop will focus on two main topics: planning team organization and program design. The training sessions will focus on providing participants with the skills needed to get established and work collaboratively in their community, as well as introduce them to the concepts of running effective grassroots campaigns.

Workshop 3 – The NHCC Community Carbon Challenge Organizers – Continuing Education

Fall 2008

This 1-DAY workshop will increase the skill base of the Community Carbon Challenge Organizers. It will allow time for a discussion of the obstacles and opportunities that have arisen, and facilitate the development of a network of organizers who can support and provide resources for each other. These sessions will also build on the prior trainings by addressing specific needs that may arise.
